The fastest way to flash msOS image from USB to SSD is to use our SSD Flasher tool. With SSD Flasher you can flash an image of our tool to a USB drive and copy/paste the image of any msOS you want to flash on your rigs. Then just plug the USB to the rig and it will flash msOS image to the SSD that is already in the rig. You can use the same USB for multiple rigs as well. How to use SSD Flasher tool?

Method 2 Manual process

The OS running on the USB can be msOS, but since presented method works on any Ubuntu environment, it can be some other mining OS as well. We still suggest directly flashing SSD with Etcher, but if you don't have appropriate cable available, you can follow the steps explained here.

  1. Boot the rig so it is up and running and you will be able to access it in the upcoming steps.
  2. Open your computer and download the image that you want to flash from minerstat website.
  3. Once the image is downloaded, you will need to upload it to your rig. To upload file to a rig, you can use Filezilla or any other software that allows files transfer. Detailed instructions on how to prepare Filezilla are available in this help article.
  4. On the left side, you will see your computer where you can find the downloaded img file and on the right side you will connect to your server - your rig - where you can navigate to any path to which you want to uploade img file. Remember the path as you will need it for flashing and transfer the img file from your computer to your rig (right click on file and select "Upload").
  5. Let's say that you have uploaded img to the following directory: /home/minerstat/minerstat-os, which is the directory that opens once you connect to your console.
  6. Enter lsblk to find the drive letter of the USB that is plugged in. Drive letter starts with sd and ends with a, b, c, or any other letter. Make sure to not select the drive that is currently mounted.
  7. To flash msOS from USB to SSD use the following flashing command: sudo dd if=/home/minerstat/minerstat-os/msos-xx.img of=/dev/sdX bs=1M status=progress where msos-xx.img is the name of the image that you uploaded to USB and X in sdX is the drive letter you found in step 6, for example b in sdb.

You can use any directory you like, just make sure to use the command with correct path.
