There is no config.js file on freshly flashed USB

If config.js file is missing from your freshly flashed your USB, then there was something wrong with the flashing process. Possible solutions:

  • Try to flash the image once again and make sure that you press NO or CANCEL when you are asked, if you want to format.
  • Try to flash the image once again from another computer.
  • Try to flash the image once again to a different USB thumb drive.

Older Windows systems

If you are flashed USB is still missing config.js, you might be using a Windows version that allows multiple partitions for fixed disks, while removable disks can only have one partition. You could create two or more partitions on the removable disk in Linux, but Windows would still recognize only the first partition on that disk.

If you are using a Windows 7 64-bit system, you will first need to enable TESTSIGNING. To do that, run command prompt (CMD.exe) as an admin and execute the following command:

Bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON

After that, reboot your computer and follow these steps:

  1. Download and extract the Karyonix – diskmod.sys
  2. Right click on diskmod.inf – Install
  3. Reboot your computer
  4. Run UFDasHDD.bat and replug your USB flash drive to make it appear as fixed disk
  5. Run UFDNormal.bat and replug your USB flash drive to make it appear normally as a removable media

You are now able to access the partition along with config.js file.
