Dual mining

Direct dual mining

Dual mining was quite popular in 2017 as you could mine Ethereum and a lot of different coins at the same time. Because the other - dual - coins are harder to mine these days, the popularity of dual mining has slowly decreased. Nevertheless, since some miners are still interested in dual mining, dual mining is possible with minerstat as well.

Mining clients that support dual mining:

  • Claymore ETH miner that allows you Ethash mining along with Decred, Siacoin, Lbry, Pascal, Blake (2s), and Keccak;
  • PhoenixMiner ETH that allows you Ethash mining along with Blake2s on AMD GPUs.

Default configs in minerstat have dual mining disabled, so if you want to enable it, you will need to change the config of the individual mining client.

Claymore dual miner

To activate dual mining for Claymore dual miner, you will need to add and update the following parameters:

  • -dpool to set the pool address for the second coin.
  • dwal to set the wallet address for the second coin.
  • -dpsw to set the password you use on the selected pool for the second coin.
  • -mode 0 to activate dual mining (-mode 1 is to disable dual mining).
  • -dcoin to select the second coin to mine in dual mode. Possible options are: -dcoin dcr, -dcoin sc, -dcoin lbc, -dcoin pasc, -dcoin blake2s, and -dcoin keccak.

Phoenix dual miner

To activate dual mining on Phoenix dual miner, you will need to add and update the following parameters:

  • -dpool to set the pool address for the second coin.
  • -dwal to set the wallet address for the second coin.
  • -dpass to set the password you use on the selected pool for the second coin.
  • -dworker to set up the worker's name for the second coin.
  • -mode 0 to activate dual mining (-mode 1 is to disable dual mining).
  • -dcoin blake2s to select the second coin to mine in dual mode.

Both mining clients have some other parameters you can set. You can find the whole list of parameters on their official Bitcointalk threads.

Dual mining in profit switch

When you are setting up the profit switch, you can also include dual mining option. Dual mining will be selected only if it is the most profitable options between everything you have set up. To enable dual mining for profit switch, you need to:

  1. Add dual mining coins to the list of coins between which the software will switch;
  2. Add ETH to the list of coins between which the software will switch;
  3. Set up hashrates your ETH and other coins reach when dual mining;
  4. Set up other settings for profit switch and save changes.
