How to set up XMR-Stak?

XMR-Stak is CryptoNight oriented miner for CPUs, AMD, and Nvidia GPUs. It can be used on both Windows and Linux mining operation systems and it supports various CryptoNight based algorithms for mining different coins. There is a default 2% dev fee implemented in this miner, but developers allow you to change it by editing the donate-level.hpp before building the binaries.

Important XMR-Stak cannot be used for mining XMR (Monero) anymore. If you want to mine Monero, please use XMR-Stak-RandomX.

If you want to use XMR-Stak outside minerstat, you can download it through official sources:

How to set up XMR-Stak with minerstat?

In this guide, we will show you how to mine SUMO with XMR-Stak. You can use the same procedure for other algorithms and coins.

1. Address editor

Open address editor and save the the pool and the wallet for mining SUMO. We will save SUMO pool under the (POOL:SUMO)  tag and SUMO wallet under the (WALLET:SUMO) tag.

2. Default mining client

Open worker's config and select XMR-STAK as a default mining client.

3. XMR-STAK config

Update the mining client's configuration so that it will be defined as:

"pool_list":[{"pool_address" : "(POOL:SUMO)", "wallet_address" : "(WALLET:SUMO).(WORKER)", "rig_id" : "(WORKER)", "pool_password" : "x", "use_nicehash" : false, "use_tls" : false, "tls_fingerprint" : "", "pool_weight" : 1 },],"currency" : "cryptonight_r",

(WORKER) tag will be automatically replaced with your worker's name, so you don't have to change it. As you can see from the config there is a currency parameter in which the algorithm needs to be defined.

4. Save changes

Save changes and wait for mining client to restart. You are now mining SUMO with XMR-Stak.
