How to permanently disable Windows Defender?

In this article, we will show you how to permanently disable Windows Defender.

Important Do not do this on a personal or work computer, but only on the dedicated mining rigs, which don't contain any personal data, banking data, or private keys.

Turn off tamper protection

In first part, you will need to turn off tamper protection.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click on Update & Security.
  3. Click Windows Security.
  4. Navigate to Virus & Threat protection settings.
  5. Click Manage settings.
  6. Navigate to Tamper protection.
  7. Click on toggle button to set it to Off.

Permanently disable Windows Defender

In the second part, you will disable Windows Defender through Registry.

Important Editing registry is an advanced function and it can cause irreversible damage if not done correctly. Once again, don't do this on a personal computer.
  1. Type regedit to the Windows search and press enter to open Registry.
  2. Navigate to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender.
  3. Click on Windows Defender folder with right mouse button.
  4. Select New.
  5. Select DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  6. Enter the key name DisableAntiSpyware and press enter.
  7. Double-click on created DisableAntiSpyware key and set value data to 1.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Reboot the machine.

To activate Windows Defender back on, just click on the DisableAntiSpyware key with your right mouse button and select Delete. Then reboot the machine again.
